What Are All-on-4® Dental Implants?
All-on-4® is a dental implant procedure for one or two arches of artificial teeth that provide greater bite force than dentures.
All-on-4® dental implants may be an option if you are missing multiple teeth, have severe gum disease or tooth decay, or cannot otherwise have your teeth restored.
The All-on-4® procedure involves replacing your teeth with an arch of long-lasting, artificial teeth. These teeth are supported on four strategically placed dental implants—two at the front and two at the back in the upper or lower jawbone. This allows the new arch of teeth to be secure while also being less invasive than some traditional full-mouth dental restoration options.
At Next Smile Melbourne, we follow the clinically proven Malo Protocol for the All-on-4® procedure. Pioneered by Dr. Paulo Malo, the creator of the All-on-4® concept, the Malo Protocol is a two-bridge treatment process with a 98% success rate.
In the first stage, any remaining teeth you may have are removed, and the dental implants are placed. You are then fitted with your first set of ‘provisional’ teeth. You will wear these teeth for three to six months as your jawbone fuses with the dental implants. This also allows you to get used to the appearance and feel of the teeth and make any adjustments for your final set.
In stage two, you receive your final set of long-lasting teeth, crafted onsite at our Next Smile Australia Labs and made from the highest quality Nobel Biocare components.

He graduated from The University of Melbourne in 1980 with first-class honours in Dental Science, having first completed a Bachelor of Science with Honours at Monash University.

With over 40 years in dentistry, Dr Larry Benge has lectured, published, and studied locally and internationally. He is well-regarded and respected by his peers and is the lead surgeon and clinical authority for Next Smile Australia clinics.

Dr Lauren Fowler has worked alongside Dr Larry Benge since 2016, with a focus on All-on-4® treatment and prosthodontic rehabilitation. She graduated from Adelaide University in 2013 and brings her skill and passion for dentistry into every aspect of her work.
Dr Fowler has trained extensively both domestically and internationally in prosthodontics and the All-on-4® procedure, including with Professor Paulo Malo, the inventor of All-on-4®, and at the University of California, Los Angeles. She has restored hundreds of All-on-4® full mouth rehabilitations at Next Smile Melbourne and now leads the Melbourne team alongside Dr Benge in both prosthetics and surgery. In 2018, she was awarded the youngest Digital Smile Design Master worldwide at New York University and in 2019, Lauren was accepted into the University of Melbourne Surgical Implant Dentistry Master Class program.
She is a Key Opinion Leader and speaker for Nobel Biocare and Philips Sonicare, involved in clinical research, and regularly lectures around Australia. She is also a member of the Australian Dental Association.

Dr. Cormac Keating is a much-loved member of our team—by patients and colleagues. He is a skilled dentist who now calls Melbourne home after relocating from Dublin, Ireland. He earned his Bachelor of Dental Science and Bachelor of Arts from Trinity College Dublin.
Dr Keating's professional experience includes working as a general associate dentist in Ireland and now in Melbourne since moving to Australia in 2022.
He is a warm and caring clinician who prioritises patient comfort and care. Dr Keating enjoys all aspects of dentistry and has a particular interest in surgery, including extractions, implant placements, fixed prosthodontics (including All-on-4®, veneers, and crowns), and root canal treatments. He is also qualified and experienced in providing neuromodulator therapy for treating oral and maxillofacial disorders (such as grinding/bruxism).
Outside of dentistry, Dr Cormac enjoys travelling to experience and explore Australia. He also enjoys tennis, surfing and playing the guitar.
Qualifications
Maggie joined Next Smile over four years ago, and the team has never looked back. Her kind and nurturing nature towards the patients is invaluable. She takes time out of her day to meet and greet patients to ensure a smooth and comfortable journey throughout their entire treatment. Maggie will assist with any dental questions and puts the patients first 24/7. She has brought glamour to the surgery as she has a passion for fashion. Maggie also loves cooking, travelling and looking after her family with beautiful meals and wine.
Dr. Fiachra Maher is a dedicated and skilled dentist with a robust educational and professional background. He earned his Dental Science degree from Trinity College Dublin in 2019 and further advanced his qualifications by achieving membership in the Faculty of Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2020.
Previously, Dr Fiachra held roles as a Clinical Supervisor at Dublin Dental University Hospital, where he supervised senior dental students in oral surgery clinics and delivered seminars. His experience extends to serving as a Senior House Officer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at St. James’s Hospital and Dublin Dental University Hospital, where he managed complex cases involving head and neck cancer, trauma, and orthognathic procedures.
Outside of dentistry, Dr Fiachra has been a passionate hurling player and captain for Clontarf GAA Club and remains engaged with the Irish Dental Association and Australian Dental Association.

Outside the clinic, Monica loves to explore the world, especially visiting her friends and family back in New Zealand. She’s also a dedicated dog lover, cherishing moments spent with her beloved pups.
Peter Kerfoot is a dental prosthetist with 20 years of experience in the dental industry.
Peter qualified as a dental technician from Edinburgh Telford College, Scotland, working in the NHS system before moving to Australia in 2010. Peter has worked closely with Dr Larry Benge since 2011, completing thousands of All-on-4® appliances for Larry’s patients.
Peter qualified as a Dental Prosthetist from RMIT in 2020 and has been an integral part of Larry’s team in providing patients with the best quality of care. Peter’s attention to detail ensures a high aesthetic and function for all All-on-4® appliances.
His cheeky humour and accent are a winner with patients, and patients and staff always appreciate his knowledge and caring nature.

Qualifications
The All-on-4® two-stage protocol developed by Dr Malo, allows the placement of four dental implants to support a fixed bridge during one appointment. This greatly reduces the time patients spend without teeth: You will receive a non-removable set of new teeth in as little as one day.

When you lose one or more teeth, the underlying bone has no function and, consequently, is reabsorbed by the body. Dental implants, however, can provide enough stimulation to the jawbone to prevent the bone from further deterioration. All-on-4®, as such, also prevents further bone loss.
Patients who’ve been advised that traditional solutions to missing teeth won’t work for them due to significant bone loss are often suitable candidates for the All-on-4® treatment.
