What are dental implants?

Made from biocompatible titanium, a dental implant serves as a replacement for the root of one or more missing teeth and is surgically placed into the jawbone to support a dental prosthesis, such as a crown, bridge, or denture. The natural bone fuses to the implants, acting as the anchor for the new teeth, just as a natural root would. Dental implants can be inserted in the upper, lower or both jaws. Dental implants are suitable for a single tooth or multiple teeth rehabilitation.

Dental implants are designed to provide the same functionality and look as natural teeth. A single implant-supported tooth is a long lasting solution that usually takes three to six months to complete. Additionally, single dental implant treatment involves the placement of one implant at a time, with a healing period between each implant placement.
